Abstract Magnolia is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine that can be used to treat organ diseases. Magnolol and honkiol are the main components of magnolia that have anti- inflammatory, anti-oxidative, antibacterial, anti-tumor, anti-ulcer and so on. The analytical methods for determining magnolol and honkiol in traditional Chinese medicine preparations which are Huo-xiang-zheng-qi, Xiang-sha-yang-wei-wan and Yi-shi-ke-li and so on were introduced. It is put forword that it has very important significance the analytical methods for determining magnolol and honkiol for clinical rearch and application.
