Abstract The mechanical properties of the coal gangue which was taken as research object were studied in this paper. Firstly, the basic mechanical properties of filling gangue were studied from aspects of physical and chemical composition analysis, electron microscope scanning and swelling analysis. Then, the experimental analysis was carried out on the compaction characteristics of filling gangue with the aid of uniaxial compression test machine, so as to effectively guide its practical application.
