Mine high pressure water pump in the starting process, the current is often able to reach the 4~7 times as big as rated current, it brings impact on the power grid, while reducing the mechanical and piping life. According to this problem,  the 6 kV voltage soft starter specific system solutions in underground main pump room of Shandong Zaozhuang Ming Group was taken as example, the specific plan of 6 kV high voltage soft starter was expounded, the results showed that the soft starter had advantages of safe and reliable, stable start, easy operation, friendly man machine interface，with significance of the underground water pump applications.
