Abstract The room and pillar mining is a common method of roof management that avoids the formation of the three zones and reduces the i MPact on the surface. Middling group with fine coal, big thickness of coal seam, room and pillar mining scheme was designed, in order to determine the feasibility of the scheme, UDEC numerical simulation method was adopted, according to the stress conditions of the simulation results of the roof, roof strike and dip, roof lithology characteristics was analyzed. For safety, the safety factor is 4, and it is feasible to meet the safety factor.
