Abstract Mining protective layer is one of the main measures to prevent regional outburst of coal and gas outburst coal seam. The coal seam group is mined in Qiyuan Mine of Yangquan Mining Area. The average distance between the main mining No.15 coal seam and the upper No.82 coal seam is 80 m. In order to reasonably select the protective layer of coal and gas outburst coal seam group with super large spacing, the outburst danger of the protective layer, the protective effect of the protective layer and the influence degree of the lower protective layer mining on the safe mining of the upper coal seam were analyzed and demonstrated. It was determined that No.15 coal seam was a relatively ideal protective layer. It was expected that after the mining of No.15 coal seam, it would have a good protective effect on the upper No.81 and No.82 coal seams.
