Abstract Aiming at the problems of gas accumulation and over-limit in the upper corner of ' U ' type ventilation in 8103 fully mechanized mining face of Shenzhou Coal Industry Co., Ltd., by analyzing the causes of gas over-limit in the upper corner, comprehensive control measures such as low negative pressure and large flow buried pipe drainage in goaf, kilometer directional high-level borehole drainage in goaf roof, upper corner intubation, air guide tube drainage and installation of windshield are adopted. Through practice, the gas concentration ( T0 ) in the upper corner of No.8103 Face is reduced from about 1.5 % at the initial mining to about 0.3 %, and the gas concentration ( T2 ) in the return air flow is reduced from about 0.8 % to about 0.2 %. The results show that the above measures have a good effect on the gas control in the upper corner, which ensures the safe production of the ' U ' type ventilation fully mechanized working face.
