| Numerical simulation study on roof cutting and pressure relief for roadway protection of the return air roadway in the fully mechanized caving face |

Abstract The width of the coal pillar in the previous working face of Shangshe Erjing Mine was 30m, which was affected by special geological conditions, resulting in difficulties in roadway maintenance and low extraction rate. However, during the process of retaining small coal pillars, the high pressure of adjacent roadway surrounding rocks had become a problem that restricted the development of modern mining technology. Based on the mechanical characteristics of roof fracture and the law of mine pressure manifestation, numerical simulation methods were used to compare the characteristics of rock pressure manifestation between roof cutting and non roof cutting, a reasonable roof cutting height was determined, and a complete set of roof cutting and pressure relief technology process system was constructed. The return air return air roadway of No.15205 working face of Erjing Mine was taken as an example. The research results showed that the peak position of lateral support pressure had shifted by 5 meters towards the side of the solid coal after roof cutting and pressure relief, the peak stress had decreased by about 6.363 MPa, and the stress concentration coefficient had decreased by 0.69, providing a safety guarantee for the small coal pillar driving along the goaf in the adjacent working face.
