Abstract The combustion mechanism of dimethyl ether was studied by using chemical reaction kinetics software CHEMKIN. According to the sensitivity analysis results and the formation rate analysis, the detailed mechanism of the combustion chemical kinetics of dimethyl ether was simplified, and the simplified mechanism was compared with the detailed reaction mechanism. The results showed that the most sensitive reactions are the 34 reaction elements of reaction 288#, 261#, 246#, 103# and 14#, respectively. The simplified mechanism has different effects on the adiabatic combustion temperature and laminar flame velocity, and the errors are 17% and 24%, respectively.
