Abstract In view of the contradiction between large-scale coal mining and water resources protection in Shendong coalfield, the geological characteristics, hydrogeology and engineering geological characteristics of the burnt rock in Niuliang Minefield were carried out by means of drilling construction, geological survey, pumping test and hydrological logging. The analysis and research provided a scientific basis for the future mining of No. 3 coal seam in mines, and prevented the damage of mine water caused by burning rock water damage, achieved the purpose of water conservation and coal mining, protection of water resources and desert ecological construction.
