Abstract The surface treatment waste liquid was treated by chemical reduction, acid-base neutralization and flocculation precipitation. The experimental results show that the reduction effect of hexavalent chromium by sodium bisulfite is good with less mud production and low heavy metal concentration in the supernatant. When the dosage of sodium bisulfite is 2.09 kg/t, the hexavalent chromium in the supernatant is not detected. When alkali is added to precipitate heavy metals, and the pH value is 6.5~10, the concentrations of total chromium, total copper and total zinc are all less than 0.1 mg/L, and the concentrations are the lowest at pH value of 8.5.
