Abstract Liuqinggou Mine was taken as example, three zones of spontaneous combustion in goaf was studied by numerical simulation, and the effect of nitrogen injection on fire control was tested and evaluated. The distribution of spontaneous combustion "three zones" and the width of the oxidation zone in the goaf of Liuqinggou Mine were obtained. The effect observed on site also showed the obvious effect of nitrogen injection, and no signs of spontaneous combustion appeared
