Abstract In order to get high quality Kaolin,iron impurities should be removed.Several methods for removing iron from kaolin were introduced in recent years, including physical method, chemical method, electrolysis method, and biological methods. The basic principles of several iron removal methods were expounded, and the research progress of several iron removal methods was summarized. It is pointed out that the single iron removal method has some defects or limitations: low efficiency of physical method, high cost of chemical method, discontinuous electrolysis method and long cycle of biological method. How to improve the effect of iron removal, simplify the process and reduce the cost is still the focus of the study on iron removal of coal-based kaolin.
