Abstract In order to realize stability classification of roadway roof in close distance coal seam, there were three steps needed to do. Firstly, mechanical model of “bulk-block” was constructed according to structural characteristics of roof rock stratum in close distance coal seam, and its failure mechanism of roof surrounding rock was analyzed. Then, weights of different factors affecting roof stability were analyzed through analytic hierarchy method. And the roof was divided into three categories. Finally, partition map of roof stability of various coal seams was drawn through stability calculation of each borehole roof.
