Abstract Based on inner movement deformation mechanism in strip mining, discrete element numerical analysis was adopted to study the problem above. The result showed that strip mining overlying strata subsidence with sequence as compressed belt, smooth belt, weaken belt, the ground subsidence was caused by accumulation self compression of roof and floor of coal and rock pillars in strip goaf pressure subsidiary stress, the surface layer balanced the ground movement deformation, the thicker the surface layer, the larger relative deformation of surface layer balanced.
