Abstract The solid formaldehyde scavenger was synthesized using sodium bisulfite and sodium hydroxide.An airer was used as a imitative air chamber, and in it, the experiments of scavenging formaldehyde with the scavenger were proceeded. The effects of the scavenging time and the ratio of sodium bisulfite to sodium hydroxide on the inhibited rate of formaldehyde were investigated. The experimental results indicated that while the scavenging time was 40 hours and the ratio of sodium bisulfite to sodium hydroxide was 10,the scavenging rate was the best.
