Abstract The main coal-bearing strata in Sang 'e minefield are Upper Carboniferous Taiyuan Formation and Lower Permian Shanxi Formation. The coal-bearing coefficient of Taiyuan Formation is 4.02%, and that of Shanxi Formation is 11.34%. Taiyuan formation belongs to tidal flat-carbonate platform deposit. The main minable coal seam is No.9 coal seam, which is a stable coal seam with large thickness. Shanxi Formation is a set of coal-bearing deposits dominated by river-controlled delta plain environment. The main minable coal seams are No.2 and No.3 coal seams. Among them, No.2 coal seam is a stable coal seam that can be mined in the whole area, and No.3 coal seam is a stable coal seam that can be mined in most areas. The main coal is lean coal, which has good quality and high mining value. Through the study of the occurrence characteristics and sedimentary environment of the mineable coal seam, it is of positive significance to the development and utilization of the minefield resources.
