Abstract Due to the influence of historical conditions, most coal mines did not effectively explore the occurrence and structural development of the lower coal group before the mining of the upper coal group. With the exhaustion of the upper coal resources, the demand for seismic exploration of the lower coal group in the coal mine goaf is increasingly urgent in order to maintain the safe production and sustainable development of the mine. Combined with the working example of three-dimensional seismic exploration of the lower group coal in the double layer goaf of Gequan Mine, the integrated technology of data acquisition, processing and interpretation was proposed under the unfavorable conditions of poor surface conditions, double layer goaf, large number of coal seams, small coal seam spacing and shallow coal seam depth. From the final time profile, the double layer goaf and the goaf of shorter years had a greater impact on the seismic exploration of the lower group coal than the single layer goaf and the goaf of longer years.
