Abstract Polypropylene (PP) is one of the five plastic varieties in the world, with excellent comprehensive performance and obvious market advantages. Because of the low strength, high brittleness, poor light resistance and low fracture toughness of pure PP, its application range is limited. The mechanical properties, flame retardancy and processability were improved by adding modifiers to monomers, blending, copolymerization, tackifying and grafting. The development and application of PP materials were reviewed from the aspects of foaming modification, flame retardant modification, copolymerization, graft blending, tackifying, concrete re infiltration, fiber composite and so on. With the development, innovation and breakthrough of relevant key technologies, the quality and function of polypropylene based new materials will be further improved, the dimension of polypropylene materials will be enhanced, and the industrialization, localization and scale of polypropylene functional products will be promoted.
