Abstract In order to improve the driving speed of rock roadway, the experiment of fully mechanized excavator construction was carried out in the return air downhill of No. 6 Coal Seam of Zijin Mine. Based on the analysis of the problems existing in the construction of traditional drilling and blasting method, EBZ-260 fully mechanized excavator was determined to be used, and a set of rapid tunneling operation line mainly supported by rock roadway fully mechanized excavator was established. The field application showed that the maximum daily footage reached 8 m and the monthly footage was more than 150 m, which was twice the blasting excavation speed, greatly reduced the labor intensity of workers, improved the safety factor, obtained good economic and social benefits, and had a broad prospect of popularization and application.
