Abstract In view of the gas emission prediction of fully mechanized top coal caving face in thick coal seam of a mine in Xinzhou, Shanxi Province during the mining period, according to the existing coal seam gas content data, the main sources of gas emission were analyzed by using the source separation prediction method. Through detailed calculation, the gas emission of 13103 fully mechanized top coal caving face during the mining period was predicted under different productivity conditions. When the mine productivity is 4.0-8.0 Mt /a, the predicted absolute gas emission of the working face is 6.23-12.45 m3/min. In the actual production of the mine, reliable theoretical data reference is provided for the methods of gas prevention and control, which provides an effective prerequisite for the safe production of the mine.
