Abstract Based on the theory of key layer and the application of UDEC numerical simulation software, combined with the mining practice of Cuncaota Mine and the relevant data from the field monitoring, the fracture characteristics of the key layer structure of the shallow buried coal seam was analyzed, and the structural characteristics of the overlying rock of the shallow buried coal seam group, the law of mining pressure appearance of the working face, and the structural characteristics and mutual influence relationship between the surrounding rock of the upper and lower coal seam mining in the shallow buried coal seam group were summarized, with important reference significance for the coal seam mining under similar conditions.
