Abstract Reasonable extraction radius is of great significance for pre-extraction by reasonable arrangement of extraction boreholes in mines, but at present there is no specific specification and general measurement method for determination of gas extraction radius. In this paper, the downhole direct measurement methods such as gas pressure drop method, gas content method, gas flow method and gas tracer method were compared and analyzed. The results showed that no single test method was suitable for all coal seam conditions. It was concluded that an efficient and accurate extraction radius determination method should be comprehensively combined with the occurrence of different coal seams.
