Abstract In order to ensure the safe mining of the second mining area for Liuwan Mine and the maximal degree mining, according to the present situation of small coal mine fire area, the comprehensive control methods of surface grouting oxygen insulation, injected gel cooling and plugging oxygen insulation for the upper lower mine were preserved to play an important role for fire extinguishing. The results showed that the fire area could be effectively controlled, the reference experience was provided for fire area control work of other mines.
