In order to evaluate the resource potential of coal measures shale gas in the arboniferous-Permian sea-land transitional phase of Jiulong Mine in Hanxing coalfield, this study relied on the drilling data of the mining area to collect dark mudstone samples from roof and floor and interlayer of the Shanxi Formation No.2 coal seam. Through organic geochemical tests including kerogen maceral identification, vitrinite reflectance determination, and rock pyrolysis analysis, the distribution characteristics and hydrocarbon generation potential of the sea-land transitional phase Carboniferous-Permian dark mudstone in the study area were analyzed. The results showed that the Carboniferous-Permian dark mudstone in Jiulong mining area had the advantages of large cumulative thickness, continuous and stable lateral distribution, and good sealing performance of caprock. The kerogen type of the source rock was mainly type III, and the organic matter abundance was high ( most of them were more than 2% ). The dark mudstone was in the mature-high mature favorable hydrocarbon generation evolution stage, and the hydrocarbon generation material base and thermal evolution strip were suitable, which had good shale gas exploration and development prospects.
