Natural organic matters extracted from yam by organic solvent precipitation were used as flocculant to coagulation removal direct red 4BS. The effects of flocculant dosage, temperature, pH value, inorganic salt and suspended solid on removal of direct Red 4BS were investigated. Results indicat that the yam extract(PS) and polyaluminium chloride have a synergistic effect. The coagulation removal of direct red 4BS by PAC can be enhanced by addition of PS. The removal of direct red 4BS increases with the increase of dosages of PS. The flocculation effect is dramatic and the removal rate of dye wastewater is significantly improved, which PAC and PS dosage have the greatest influence, followed by pH value and temperature.The presence of inorganic salt and suspended solid have almost no influence on direct red 4BS removal.
