The structure of natural sapphire (abbreviation sapphire) in Sri Lanka was studied by diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy. It is found that sapphire mainly exists in the model of Al-O stretching vibration. The diffuse two-dimensional infrared spectrum of νAl-O bands was also studied, its infrared absorption frequency includes 486(νAl-O-1), 482(νAl-O-2), 478(νAl-O-3), 476(νAl-O-4), 460(νAl-O-5), 454(νAl-O-6), 451(νAl-O-7), 424(νAl-O-8), 422(νAl-O-9), 420(νAl-O-10), 416(νAl-O-11) and 406 cm-1(νAl-O-12), and the change trend of absorption intensity speed of sapphire infrared νAl-O at room temperature was studied. The study demonstrated the key roles of diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance two-dimensional infrared spectroscopyin the analysis of identification and structure research of the sapphire.
