Based on the major form and failure causes of drill pipe, finite element analysis was conducted to the strength of drill pipe joint thread, with introduction of drill pipe finite element analysis, the corresponding structure improvement was given by analyzing the failure of drill pipe thread. The practice showed that the improvement could advance the using period of pipe thread, reduce the accident odds caused by pipe thread fracture, save the cost and improve the construction quality of the enterprise.
