In order to determine range and category of surrounding rock loose circle during the process of roadway drivage in Northern Shanxi Coal Industry, KMT type mine digital borehole imaging test instrument was used. The results showed that maximum size of loosing circle in lane and top of lane were 2.10m and 1.75m respectively, and surrounding rock of roadway belonged to V kind instable surrounding rocks. Therefore, vaulted section was adopted in supporting design of roadway, and combined arch theory was used to determined bolt support parameters.
