Abstract The mine field of Xingtai coal mine is a typical North China type coal field. The Ordovician limestone water has the characteristics of high head pressure, abundant water and strong supply. It is easy to form water outburst channel due to the influence of working face mining. The drop of F12 fault reaches 100 m, which forms a hydraulic connection between No.2 coal and Ordovician limestone in Xingtai Coal Mine, and there is a great risk of water outburst. Combined with the actual conditions of the mine, it was determined to use the ground directional drilling method to carry out the advanced exploration and control of the Ordovician limestone in the floor of the hidden fault structure. Through the ground advanced regional control project, the occurrence of F12 and F16 faults was clarified, and the floor cracks were effectively blocked. At the same time, the elevation of the Ordovician limestone water level was measured to be + 60.28- + 79.18 m, which provided a guarantee for the safe mining of No.2 coal in Xingtai Coal Mine.
