Abstract Radon and its daughters are important gases that can not be ignored in the process of coal mining. In order to effectively prevent and control lung cancer and other diseases caused by radon radiation, under the premise of investigating the danger of radon in the process of coal mining, the source, occurrence characteristics and migration rules, determination methods and prevention measures of radon in coal and rock strata are studied. The influencing factors of radon and its daughters in coal mines are analyzed, and the corresponding prevention measures are put forward. From the perspective of coal mine safety mining, the application of radon and its daughters in coal mining is prospected.
