Abstract In order to determine the initial weighting and periodic weighting step and the rationality of support selection of No.S1306 Face, the mining pressure law of working face was studied through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. Based on the theory of composite beam, the initial weighting step of working face was 44.03 m, and the periodic weighting step was 15.75 m, which was consistent with the measured values. The plastic zone, vertical stress and displacement of working face in different advancing ranges were simulated by numerical simulation. It was determined that the first caving step of the main roof of the working face was 46 ~ 49 m, and the periodic weighting step was 11 ~ 13 m, which was in good agreement with the measured values, and the support resistance of the working face met the production requirements of the working face.
