Abstract When steeply inclined thick coal seam was taken by using the fully-mechanized mining, there were mix horizon and same horizon, two types of roadway layout, the two way working face of law of mine pressure appearance, top-coal caving and roadway, mine pressure appearance were quite different. Through UDEC4.0 numerical simulation analyzing mix horizon and same horizon under the initial mining and abutment pressure distribution law on both sides near the working face, overlying top-coal movement rule and rule of roadway roof caving mining, the results proved that the first mining face mix horizon top coal caving was superior to same horizon, but, the former lower bearing pressure was larger than the latter; mix horizon the first mining face roadway pressure was big, with hard maintenance of roadway, whereas, the near work along the groove on the surface of the mine pressure was small, which is in favor of roadway maintenance.
