Abstract Many large faults are affected by coal seam mining, and there is a phenomenon of 'activation', which evolves from the original non-aqueous and non-water-conducting faults to water-conducting faults. In view of the risk of water filling from the fault to the working face, this paper used the multi-branch horizontal directional hole to explore the fault in advance and control the fault by pre-grouting reinforcement, which complemented the short board of coal mine fault exploration and control, and had reference value for coal mine fault exploration and control.
