Abstract In order to prevent spontaneous combustion of coal in goaf, the distribution law of ' three zones ' of scattered tropical zone, heating zone and suffocation zone in goaf of No.8203 Face was simulated with Comsol. The temperature of ' three zones ' was ladder-type distribution. According to the simulation results, the grouting scheme was adopted in the heating zone, and the CO gas content and temperature in this region were measured and analyzed after grouting. The results showed that after the grouting scheme was adopted, the CO concentration decreased to 2.4 ppm, and the ground drilling temperature was stable at about 16 °C, with good control effect.
