Abstract In the process of mine construction and mining, coal seam roof and floor accidents threatening the safe production of coal mine often occurred, which not only affected the construction of roadways but also threatened the mining of coal seams. Therefore, it was very necessary to study the engineering geological characteristics of coal seam roof and floor. Taking the roof and floor of No. 8 and No. 15 coal seams in New Shanghai No. 1 Mine as the research object, the rock mass quality and stability of coal seam roof and floor were evaluated and analyzed by using the coal mine exploration data and rock physical and mechanical properties, and the possible damages of the roof and floor were predicted in combination with the structural development characteristics of the coal mine, which had great significance to the safe production of coal mine.
