Based on coal pillar working face in Shipan Area of Xuecun Mine, with freguent phenomena of roof breakage and old mined-out area, rib spalling, roof caving, according to the mining geological conditions and the actual study, the causes of rib spalling and roof caving phenomenon were analyzed. The technical measures to prevent rib spalling, roof caving were put forward. The measures effectively controled the roof rib spalling, roof caving, reduced the roof accidents phenomena, at the same time, reduced the investment of large amount of wood, ensured the safety, achieved good economic and social benefits.
