Abstract Combined with the actual mining at the 1881 working face of Kailuan Linxi Mine, the law of surrounding rock deformation was studied. By adopting the "cross-shaped method" tracking and monitoring of the two roadways, the data of the surrounding rock deformation of the roadway was collected and organized. The impact of protection on the deformation of surrounding rock, the law of the appearance of the mine pressure was concluded, which provided the basis and technical experience for future engineering design, support equipment selection and safe mining.
