Abstract The combined layer of No.11 and No.12-1 in No. 309 area of Xinzhouyao Mine was a typical hard roof , floor and coal quality coal seam. During the mining, the mining pressure with strong appearance in the adjacent airway and working face. Conventional bolt and anchor support cannot control the deformation of surrounding rock. In order to effectively control the surrounding rock and reduce the occurrence of strong ore pressure, the 5939 adjacent surface of the 8939 working face selected the supporting material of high strength and pressure material during the mining. The construction of pressure relief holes, water injection into coal seams and construction of forced roof holes effectively released the stress concentration inside the surrounding rock, ensured safe and smooth mining and recovery of the working face.
