Abstract In order to study the effect of sewage treatment plant drainage on the receiving rivers, three sewage treatment plants were selected in Beijing for investigation. High throughput sequencing technique was used for searching the microbial community composition changes from acceptance river’s upstream to downstream. The physical and chemical indicators of the receiving river were monitored. The results show that TN, TP and TOC of the three wastewater treatment plants are higher than those of the upstream of the receiving water. There are significant differences in the composition of biofilm microorganisms between the upstream and downstream of the receiving rivers. TN,TP are the main reasons for the different microbial community composition in the upper and lower reaches of the receiving rivers.
