Abstract In order to improve interpretation level of mine transient electromagnetic data , three problems affecting data interpretation were discussed through calculation of theoretical formula and statistics of measured data. Based on calculation of time parameters that met the late-time condition ( τ / L > 16 ) and analysis on application effect of actual closing time of the TEM exploration in coal mine and formula for calculating the actual apparent resistivity, the results showed that the late formula was not suitable for mine transient electromagnetic method. The mine transient electromagnetic method measured the integrated response from two half-spaces, so calculation of apparent resistivity should be corrected. Statistical analysis of measured data of mine metal interference showed that interference of rails, downpipe and other metal body was far stronger than the metal wire mesh and hoisting belt. These sources of interference should be avoided as far as possible in practical work.
