Abstract Nitrate oxidation process belong to national key monitored dangerous chemical processes. In order to guarantee the safe operation of the oxidation, realize the early prevention of accident, it is necessary to carry on the risk analysis and safety evaluation. HAZOP analysis method (Hazard and operability analysis) focuses on the qualitative safety risk assessment of production system or equipment, is one of the best ways of the current systematic and comprehensive safety risk management, safety evaluation methods LOPA analysis method (Layer of protection analysis) is a semi-quantitative risk assessment method based on the qualitative hazard analysis, which is to determine if the device has enough independent protective layer. The above methods can complement each other for qualitative and quantitative risk analysis. Shijiazhuang Fengshan Chemical Corporation Ltd. produces nitrate by ammonia oxidation directly, three sets of oxidation device after several modification and expansion expose some potential safety hazards in production. In order to improve the safe level of device itself, Fengshan Chemical oxidation devices were analyzed by HAZOP-LOPA analysis method. Some possible safety hazards and potential risk were predicted, the necessary safety technical measures and improvement suggestions were put forward, thereby providing some effective means and beneficial reference to the inorganic salt production enterprises security management and safety production.
