| Research of oxidative degradation of erythromycin in water by sodium persulfate activated by ferrous ions |

Abstract Because the traditional water treatment method is more difficult to deal with the antibiotics in water, the degradations of erythromycin in water using sulfate radical generated by ferrous ion-activated sodium persulfate were studied. The effects of Na2S2O8 dosage, initial pH value and molar ratio of Na2S2O8 to Fe2+ on degradation were investigated. The results show that with the greater concentration of Na2S2O8 in a certain range, the greater the degradation rate is; in alkaline condition, the degradation effect of erythromycin is better; when the molar ratio of Na2S2O8 to Fe2+ is 2∶1, degradation rate is the highest, and instead of increasing the proportion of the degradation the rate is decreased.
