Abstract The type and performance of extreme pressure and anti-wear additives was outlined, summarizing the research status and the dynamic of lubricant extreme pressure and anti-wear additives. Comparison and summarization of commonly used extreme pressure and anti-wear additives lubricants were conducted. It was considered that sulfur, phosphorusanalysis of complex research and mechanism of action would still be the main stream of lubricant additives and other additives in a long period, whose compound formulation and mechanism analysis were still a focus in the study of lubricating oil additives. . Multi-function compounds, nano-additives and environmentally friendly extreme pressure anti-wear additives would lead the research directions in the future.
