Abstract There was a aquifer above No. 6 coal seam of Hongling Mine， may cause threaten for safe production， No. 6 coal seam mining feasibility was analyzed， theoretical calculation and UDEC numerical simulation were adopted. The maximum height of fracture zone was 39.66 m by theory analysis， and the theory fracture zone was 32 m， 39.66 m may be the maximum height of fracture zone. It was proved the water-proof coal column of was 53 m of No. 6 coal seam. The minimum distance between No. 6 coal seam and aquifer was 68 m， with complete mud rock seam between them， it was got that the coal seam was feasible with safe mining.
